Where we run

Cross border flatbed, Ontario to the US and back

Fission Logistics takes flatbed freight from Mississauga across the border, mainly at Detroit and Buffalo, to and from Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. We are CTPAT validated and PIP approved, and dispatch files the eManifest on every cross border load: ACE going south, ACI coming north.

How a cross border load goes

  1. You send the lane, the load and your customs broker. We quote within 1 business hour.
  2. At pickup the driver checks the paperwork against the freight, and dispatch files the eManifest.
  3. Your customs broker clears the entry and the truck crosses at Detroit or Buffalo, in the FAST lane when the load qualifies.
  4. We deliver and send you the proof of delivery.

Equipment on cross border lanes

Tandem Conestogas, open flatbeds, step decks and double drops all cross. Of the multi axle units, only the 6 axle crosses, with up to 86,000 lb into Michigan and 76,000 lb into Ohio and Indiana. The 4 axle units stay in Ontario and Quebec.

Every tractor runs Samsara, so one tracking link follows the load on both sides of the border.

Questions shippers and brokers ask

What do I need to give you for a cross border load?

The commercial invoice, the shipper and consignee details, and the contact for your customs broker. The customs broker is always yours; we don't provide one. Dispatch files the ACE or ACI eManifest before the truck reaches the bridge so your customs broker can clear the freight ahead of arrival.

Which crossings do you use?

Detroit and Buffalo mainly. We use other crossings when the lane calls for it, and the FAST lane when the load and the importer qualify.

Do you take broker and 3PL loads across the border?

Yes. Send the rate confirmation to dispatch@fissionlogistics.com or call (905) 799 7900, press 1, 24 hours. The load moves under our USDOT 2322171 and MC 792691, on a Fission trailer and under Fission insurance. We email the carrier packet the same business day, with the certificate of insurance and a W8BEN E for US payers. Send your portal invite or setup forms to the same address and dispatch fills them in.

What does CTPAT mean for my freight?

US Customs has audited how we secure our trucks, trailers and loads. That can mean fewer inspections at the bridge, and the FAST lane needs it. Our CTPAT SVI number is in the carrier packet.

Do you bring loads back from the US?

Yes. Steel, aluminum, building products and machinery come north on the same trucks that went south. If you have Canada bound freight, send it to dispatch.
