Fission Logistics hauls steel plate out of Hamilton and the GTA service centres to fabricators and machine shops across Ontario and into the US. Plate that has to arrive clean rides in a Conestoga, loaded from the side by forklift. Plate the crane lifts goes on an open flatbed. Heavy plate orders inside Ontario or into Michigan ride a 6 axle.

How we secure plate
- Timbers go under every stack, so the forklift or crane can get back under it at delivery.
- Plate is chained across the stack with edge protectors at every contact point.
- On an open deck the load is tarped when you ask for it.

What to send for a quote
Pickup and delivery, the number of pieces, the size of the largest piece, the total weight and the date. If any piece is wider than 102 inches or the stack is taller than 102 inches, say so, and dispatch prices the permit with the load.
Questions shippers ask
Conestoga or open flatbed for plate?
Conestoga when the plate has to arrive clean and the shipper loads by forklift from the side. Open flatbed when the crane loads from the top, when the plate is wider than 102 inches, or when the stack is taller than the curtain frame. Tarped on request.
How heavy a plate load can you take?
Up to 45,000 lb on a tandem. Up to 86,000 lb on the 6 axle inside Ontario and into Michigan, and 76,000 lb into Ohio and Indiana. The 4 axle covers Ontario and Quebec. Send the total weight with the quote request. We can't price it without the weight.
Do you haul plate wider than the trailer?
Yes. Plate over 102 inches wide goes on an open flatbed with permits for Ontario and every US state on the route. Give dispatch the width and length. Permitted loads are quoted after dispatch checks the route.
An order with 2 wide pieces and 6 skids of cut plate, is that 1 truck or 2?
Send the whole order and dispatch tells you. Often it is 1 open flatbed, tarped, with the wide pieces on the deck and the skids beside them. If the weight or the width says 2 trucks, the quote says so.
Do you pick up plate in Hamilton?
Yes. Our trucks load coil and plate at the Hamilton mills, processors and service centres every working day and deliver to the GTA, the rest of Ontario and the US.
