Flatbed trucking in Guelph: machinery, auto parts and steel
Fission Logistics runs flatbed and Conestoga trucking in Guelph with 80 trucks and 140 trailers from our Mississauga yard, about 60 km west on the 401. Most of what we haul in Guelph comes out of plants: auto parts, machinery and dies, steel and aluminum for fabricators, and building products off the Hanlon. A truck is often in the city already, since Guelph is on the same run as Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge.

What moves in Guelph
Guelph is a manufacturing city. Auto parts plants and their tooling, machine builders, steel and aluminum fabricators, and food and beverage plants all sit along the Hanlon, Woodlawn Road and the south end by the 401. Most of that freight is a skid, a crate or a die set that has to arrive dry, so most of it rides in a Conestoga. The long and tall pieces go on an open deck.
| Freight | Trailer we send |
|---|---|
| Auto parts, racks and supplier freight | Conestoga, 53 ft tandem |
| Dies, moulds and skidded machines | Conestoga; step deck or double drop when tall |
| Aluminum extrusions and castings | Conestoga; see aluminum transport |
| Structural steel, fabricated pieces, rebar | Open flatbed, loaded by crane from the top |
| Process tanks, mixers and food plant equipment | Step deck, double drop, with permits when wide |
| Building products, racking, pallets | Conestoga |
| Heavy coil, plate or a press base | 6 axle, up to 86,000 lb inside Ontario |
| A few skids or one machine | Partial load on a truck already on the lane |
Machinery and die moves from Guelph plants
A lot of what we move out of Guelph is tooling: dies going out for repair, a press component, a cell moving to a sister plant in Michigan or Ohio. Before booking, dispatch needs 3 things: the crated height, the weight and the tie down points. Height picks the trailer. Up to 102 inches rides dry in a Conestoga, up to 120 inches rides legal on a step deck, and taller goes in a double drop. We do not carry ramps, so the lift is booked at both ends. Shutdown and weekend moves are routine; see shutdown die transport and moving machinery between plants.
Trucking companies in Guelph, Rockwood, Fergus and Elora
Guelph pickups run on the same lane as Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge, so a truck heading west on the 401 can take a Guelph load on the way. Fergus and Elora are a short run north on Highway 6. Freight heading east goes to the GTA, Hamilton and the Milton plants. Freight heading west runs through London to Windsor on our daily lane.
Into the US from Guelph
A Guelph die or cell going to a sister plant in Michigan or Ohio is booked like any other tooling move: crated height, weight and tie down points first. Michigan, Indiana and most of Ohio cross at Detroit, on the Ambassador Bridge, or the Gordie Howe International Bridge when the lane calls for it. New York, Pennsylvania and Cleveland cross at Buffalo. We are CTPAT validated and PIP and FAST approved, and dispatch files ACE and ACI on every cross border load. Your customs broker clears the entry. See Ontario to Michigan, Ontario to Ohio and cross border trucking.
How to book a Guelph load
- Send the pickup and the receiver.
- Tell us the commodity, the weight, how it loads, and the dimensions if anything is tall or wide.
- Give the date the freight is ready.
- We quote within 1 business hour, 7 am to 5 pm ET, Monday to Friday, and name the trailer with the price.
- Confirm, and the load goes on the dispatch board. Ask for a Samsara tracking link and dispatch sends it.
