Expedited flatbed: rush and hot loads in Ontario and cross border, on a dedicated truck

Fission Logistics runs expedited flatbed loads in Ontario and cross border from its Mississauga yard, Toronto and the GTA first, with 80 trucks and 140 trailers: a dedicated truck for the hot load that cannot wait, on a flatbed, Conestoga, step deck, double drop or 6 axle unit. Dispatch answers 24 hours at (905) 799 7900, press 1, prices a rush load within 1 business hour, 7 am to 5 pm ET, and plans weekend and plant shutdown moves around your window. Next day inside 500 miles of the GTA, with a Samsara link so you watch the truck come in.

How a rush load goes

  1. You call or send the form. Dispatch asks the 2 or 3 questions that decide the trailer: does it need a tarp or a Conestoga, how tall and how heavy, when is it ready.
  2. Dispatch names the truck and the time. A dedicated truck, the trailer it will be on and the delivery window, with the price, within 1 business hour.
  3. You confirm. A PO or a rate confirmation by email. The 120 inch crate came back at 9:41 am and the truck was set for the morning.
  4. The truck moves. One truck, dock to dock. You get the Samsara link and the driver calls the receiver before arriving.

Weekend and shutdown moves

The weekend die move is the common expedited machinery move, inside Ontario and across to Michigan: out Friday night or Saturday, back on the press by Monday. For a shutdown week with several pieces, send the full list before the shutdown and dispatch sets the trucks against the window. The planning steps are in our shutdown die move guide, and the trailers are on machinery and dies.

A real rush load, start to finish

A fabricator in Concord needed a 120 inch crate moved from North York. The quote request came in through the website at 8:47 am. Dispatch replied at 8:52 am to ask about tarping and readiness, quoted a dedicated step deck for the next morning at 9:34 am, and had the PO back at 9:41 am. The crate was delivered at 11:34 the next morning. The full timeline is on a 120 inch crate on a step deck.

What slows a rush load down, and how to avoid it

  • A missing dimension. Height decides step deck or flatbed, and width decides whether a permit is needed. Send the largest piece's length, width and height.
  • Receiving hours. A truck that arrives at 6 pm to a dock that closed at 4 pm waits until morning. Send the hours with the address.
  • Border paperwork. The commercial invoice and the broker's contact should reach dispatch with the booking, so the eManifest is filed before the truck reaches the bridge.
  • Permits. A load over 2.6 m wide or 4.15 m tall in Ontario needs a permit, and the permit office sets the pace. Dispatch tells you the realistic window.

Getting a rush load quoted

Call (905) 799 7900, press 1, any hour, or send the form with the pickup, the delivery, the freight, the weight, the dimensions and the time it has to be there. Dispatch names the truck with the price within 1 business hour, 7 am to 5 pm ET. Brokers and 3PLs: send the rate confirmation and the load moves under our own USDOT and MC on a Fission truck; the carrier packet goes out the same business day.

Questions shippers ask

How fast can Fission move a rush flatbed load?

A dedicated truck is quoted within 1 business hour, 7 am to 5 pm ET, and next day delivery covers everything inside 500 miles of the GTA: Southern Ontario, Ottawa, Montreal, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania and upstate New York. A real example: a 120 inch crate quoted at 9:34 am, booked at 9:41 am and delivered at 11:34 the next morning. For a same day move, call dispatch and they tell you what a truck can do from where it is.

Do you move loads on weekends?

Yes. We move dies and machinery on weekends and in shutdown weeks: out Friday night or Saturday morning, on the press floor by Sunday or early Monday. Dispatch answers 24 hours, 7 days.

What is a dedicated truck?

One truck, one load, no other stops. The truck goes from your dock to the receiver without a cross dock, a hand off or a wait for other freight. A rush load at Fission runs that way unless you ask for a partial.

Can a rush load cross the border?

Yes. We are CTPAT validated, PIP, FAST and CSA approved, and dispatch files the ACE or ACI eManifest before the truck reaches the bridge. Send the commercial invoice and your broker's contact with the request.

What about an oversize rush load?

Dispatch pulls Ontario and US permits in house and checks the route before quoting. A permit load takes longer than a legal one because the permit office sets the pace, and dispatch tells you when to expect the truck. Width, height and weight limits are on the oversize page.

Is this hot shot trucking?

Shippers often search hot shot flatbed when they mean a rush load. Fission runs rush loads on full size tractor trailers, 53 ft flatbeds, Conestogas, step decks and 6 axle units, so the load can weigh up to 45,000 lb on a tandem and up to 86,000 lb on a 6 axle inside Ontario.

What do you need to quote a rush load fast?

Pickup and delivery addresses with hours, what the freight is, the weight, the dimensions of the largest piece, how it loads and unloads, and when it has to be there. The 120 inch crate was quoted in 47 minutes because the height was in the request.
