Port of Hamilton trucking, steel off the ship to your plant

Fission Logistics has flatbeds in Hamilton every working day. We truck imported coil, plate and beams from the port's QSL and Logistec terminals across Ontario and into Quebec. A 6 axle takes up to 86,000 lb, so a heavy coil lot moves on about half the trucks, and Mississauga is about 55 km up the QEW.

4 fewer trucks means 4 fewer terminal appointments and 4 fewer deliveries at your receiver. Our 4 axle units also run Hamilton to Quebec for loads over 45,000 lb going east; send the weights and dispatch quotes the unit. See multi axle trucking.

Customs: CBSA, no US in bond

Hamilton is a Canadian port. Imported freight sits in the terminal's sufferance warehouse until CBSA accepts your customs broker's release request and the terminal shows the goods released. Only then can we load. CBSA allows goods to sit in a sufferance warehouse for up to 40 days from the day they are reported, and the terminal charges its own storage on top. There is no US border and no US in bond on these loads. The customs broker is always yours. Send us the release once it clears and dispatch books the terminal pickup.

Free time

HOPA Ports does not publish free time; it is set by the terminal and changes by commodity. Get the last free day in writing when the arrival notice comes and send it to dispatch with the CBSA release. We plan the trucks back from that date.

We are already in Hamilton

Our trucks run Hamilton mills, processors and service centres every working day, so a port pickup rides with trucks already in the area instead of a truck sent down empty from the GTA. See flatbed carrier Hamilton.

Plan around the season

Ships reach Hamilton from late March to the end of December. Send the vessel and the piece count early in December and we line up trucks before the terminal fills. In winter, some steel for Ontario lands at Trois-Rivières, Montreal or the East Coast ports instead.

Getting a Hamilton port pickup quoted

Send the terminal, the CBSA release and the stevedore's pickup number, the vessel and its discharge date. Add the piece count, weights and delivery address. Peel and GTA deliveries often go the same day when a truck is close, though we never promise it. Loads inside 500 miles of the GTA deliver the next business day. Dispatch names the trailer with the price within 1 business hour, 7 am to 6 pm ET, and answers at (905) 799 7900, press 1, 24 hours. What else to send, and how tracking works, is on the port trucking page.

Questions shippers ask

Do you truck from the Port of Hamilton to Quebec?

Yes. Port of Hamilton loads go to plants across Ontario and Quebec. Heavy Quebec loads can ride on a 4 axle unit, which runs Ontario and Quebec.

Do Port of Hamilton loads need a US in bond?

No. Hamilton is a Canadian port. The freight sits in the terminal's sufferance warehouse until CBSA accepts your customs broker's release request, and then we load.

How many trucks does a 400,000 lb coil lot take?

About 9 on tandems at 45,000 lb each, or 5 on 6 axle units at 86,000 lb each.

When is the Hamilton shipping season?

QSL lists late March to the end of December. In winter, some steel for Ontario lands at Trois-Rivières, Montreal or the East Coast ports, which we also pick up from.
