Port of Oshawa trucking across Ontario and to Quebec
The Port of Oshawa is off the 401 east of Toronto, about 60 km from downtown, so freight for Durham, eastern Ontario and Quebec never touches Toronto traffic. Fission Logistics trucks steel products and project freight from the port's QSL terminal across Ontario and east to Montreal, on tandems, 6 axle units inside Ontario, and 4 axle units to Quebec.

Oshawa sits on the 401 east of the city. Whitby, Ajax and Pickering are a few minutes west on the 401. Bowmanville, Peterborough, Belleville, Kingston and Cornwall run east or north from the port. None of it goes through Toronto. Montreal and the rest of Quebec stay on the 401 and Autoroute 20. GTA deliveries come west on the 401 or the 407.

Customs: CBSA, no US in bond
Oshawa is a Canadian port. Imported freight sits in the terminal's sufferance warehouse until CBSA accepts your customs broker's release request and the terminal shows the goods released. Only then can we load. CBSA allows goods to sit in a sufferance warehouse for up to 40 days from the day they are reported, and the terminal charges its own storage on top. There is no US border and no US in bond on these loads. The customs broker is always yours. Send us the release once it clears and dispatch books the terminal pickup.
Free time
HOPA Ports does not publish free time; it is set by the terminal and changes by commodity. Get the last free day in writing when the arrival notice comes and send it to dispatch with the CBSA release. We plan the trucks back from that date.
Hamilton and Oshawa together
HOPA Ports runs both ports, and in 2024 they handled 956,000 tonnes of finished and semi finished steel between them. If your steel lands at both, one dispatch plans both pickups. See the Port of Hamilton page.
Project freight
Oshawa handles project cargo and breakbulk as well as steel. Tall or wide pieces go on a step deck or double drop with permits for Ontario and Quebec, and long beams ride on an open flatbed. See structural steel and rebar.
Getting an Oshawa port pickup quoted
Send the CBSA release and the stevedore's pickup number, the vessel and its discharge date. Add the piece count, weights and delivery address. Loads inside 500 miles of the GTA deliver the next business day. Dispatch names the trailer with the price within 1 business hour, 7 am to 6 pm ET, and answers at (905) 799 7900, press 1, 24 hours. What else to send, and how tracking works, is on the port trucking page.
