2 coils, 76,000 lb, 1 truck: Detroit area to Cambridge
A steel processor in the Detroit area ships heavy coil pairs to a stamping plant in Cambridge, Ontario. A pair weighs 75,520 to 76,140 lb, which is 2 loads for a tandem carrier. Fission put each pair on 1 six axle unit and crossed at Detroit, inside our next day radius. Two pairs and 2 single coils were delivered in the first week of March 2023, the pairs on 6 axle units and the singles on Rolltite Conestogas.

A real move from Fission's order history, February and March 2023. Shippers and receivers are described by type, never named. Load counts are delivered loads; weights, trailers and pickup dates are from the dispatch records.

The ask
A tandem tractor trailer tops out at 45,000 lb of freight at 80,000 lb gross. Two coils at 38,000 lb each is 76,000 lb, so a tandem carrier sends 2 trucks and the stamper pays for 2 crossings, 2 crane lifts and 2 appointments.
Why 1 truck works
Fission's 6 axle units run at up to 86,000 lb of freight inside Ontario and into Michigan, because Ontario and Michigan both allow the extra axles to carry the weight. The pair at 76,140 lb sat under that limit with room to spare. How the axles carry it is on why a 6 axle moves 86,000 lb.
How the coils rode
Each coil sat in coil racks on beveled timbers, eye to the side, chained through the eye with protectors at every contact point, under the closed curtain so the steel stayed dry. The driver rechecks the chains within the first 80 km and again after the bridge.
What the stamper got
One truck instead of 2 at the dock, one crossing instead of 2, and the pair on the floor together. The lane is on Michigan to Ontario flatbed, and the units are on multi axle, 4 and 6 axle.
