A steel processor in Stoney Creek, Ontario ships full truckloads to plants at the southern tip of Ohio, on the Ohio River, and in southern Illinois. The ask
Full 45,000 lb loads, up to 3 a day, to 2 plants in 2 states, with the Ohio plant sitting at the far southern tip of the state on the river. One carrier held the lane for all 15.
How the steel rode
45,000 lb is the most a tandem carries at 80,000 lb gross in Ontario, Michigan, Ohio and Illinois, so every load went out full. Coil rides in racks on timbers with chains through the eye; plate and bundles are chained and strapped over edge protection. The driver rechecks tie downs within the first 80 km and at every stop.
The border and the road
Every load crossed at Detroit with the ACE eManifest filed before the bridge. The Ohio plant sits across the river from Huntington, West Virginia, about 940 km from the GTA and past our next day radius, and the Illinois plant is a longer run still, so dispatch gave the window with each quote.

Fifteen loads delivered on one carrier, with the trucks loading steel in Ohio and Illinois for the trip home. The lanes are on Ontario to Ohio flatbed and Ontario to Illinois flatbed; the pickup area is on flatbed carrier Hamilton.
